Overcoming Addiction: The Remarkable Story of Divyanshu Bedi’s Road to Recovery
Divyanshu Bedi, a 24-year-old paragliding pilot hailing from Mohali, had an exhilarating passion for the skies. However, his journey took an unexpected turn when he fell into the clutches of a devastating addiction to Chitta (pure heroin). It all began in 2012 when curiosity led him to try the substance for the first time. Little did he know that this experimentation would turn into a dangerous habit.
As the years passed, Divyanshu’s addiction escalated, and he found himself spending a substantial amount of money to feed his cravings. Initially spending Rs. 500 to 1,000 per day, he soon found himself consuming 1 gram of heroin worth Rs. 5,000 daily due to increased tolerance. Divyanshu had been financially supported by his girlfriend, a digital marketing professional, during their relationship. However, after their breakup, she moved to Canada, and Divyanshu’s path to recovery became more self-reliant and determined.
Finally realizing the gravity of his situation, Divyanshu decided to take control of his life and sought help at the Akal Drug De-Addiction Center. Admitted two months ago, he took his first steps towards recovery with determination and hope. Divyanshu credits the center for being a beacon of light in his darkest times.
Under the care of the compassionate medical and paramedical personnel, Divyanshu found himself surrounded by unwavering support round the clock. Proper medicines and nutritious food helped him regain his health, and he managed to put on 15 kg since admission. Emphasizing physical fitness, the center also encouraged engaging in spiritual pursuits as part of the holistic treatment approach.
Grateful for the transformative experience, Divyanshu now vows never to fall into the trap of drugs again. Reflecting on the past, he laments the loss of approximately Rs. 10 lakh spent on heroin during the last six months. His heartfelt message to those struggling with addiction is to seek proper treatment at the center and break free from the chains that bind them.
During his recovery journey, Divyanshu’s mother, an ayurvedic therapist learned about Dr. (Col) Rajinder Singh, the director of the center, through a recommendation. His journey to sobriety has been nothing short of remarkable, thanks to the comprehensive care he received.
Moreover, Divyanshu also shed light on the rampant drug peddling in Mohali, pointing out various localities where heroin is sold openly. Even more dishearteningly, he revealed that even Punjab policemen have succumbed to the drug’s allure. He brought to attention that not only men but girls living in apartments on rent in Mohali and Zirakpur are involved in drug supply.
In light of this information, Divyanshu believes that cutting off the supply of drugs is crucial to reducing addiction. He urges authorities to take necessary actions to curb drug peddlers and create a drug-free environment for all. His determination to stand up against drugs and promote a life of sobriety serves as an inspiration to others, offering hope and a path to a brighter future.
